Got a model? Want to learn to fly it? Then visit us at the BMFC flying site near Hawick
The BMFC flying site is situated on top of a hill known as the Bonchester Heights. You can find it using the map on this site, or set your GPS to N55° 24.366' W002° 41.799'.
Flying takes place all year round (weather permitting). Saturdays and sundays are the busiest days and flying can start at 10.00 in the morning and finish when it gets too dark. During the summer, flying takes place during the week and in the evenings.
Wrap up well when you make a visit to the site. It is very exposed up on the hill and you can experience four seasons in one day! Check the weather page on this site. or XC weather for the latest weather forecasts.
Whether your preference is for fixed wing aircraft or helicopters you'll find plenty of help and assistance from members young and old. "Buddy box" system available for first flights used by qualified instructors.
Specially designed trainer models will have you up in the air and flying on your own (under supervision) in no time at all!
The Bonchester Model Flying Club was founded to promote the hobby and sport of building and flying model aircraft. Its aim is to co-ordinate the efforts of experienced modellers to encourage and assist newcomers to the hobby and promote safety.
Any member or guest visiting the flying site MUST have their own Third Party Model Insurance which they maybe asked to show proof of at any time before flying. This does not apply to trainees under instruction.
All types of models are flown by club members, large and small (models that is). Models are powered by two and four stroke glow motors, petrol engines, jet engines and electric power. Vast improvements in battery technology over recent years have made the electric model very popular. No matter what your choice of power might be, take great care, seek help!
